Anthropic’s Claude app hits top 10 after Super Bowl ad campaign
Anthropic’s Claude app reached the U.S. App Store top 10, with estimated downloads surging 32% following the company’s recent Super Bowl advertising campaign.
Anthropic’s recent television commercials aired during the Super Bowl—the annual U.S. football championship—have driven a surge in user interest for its artificial intelligence chatbot. The campaign successfully helped push the company’s Claude app from No. 41 to a top 10 ranking on the U.S. App Store, a mobile application marketplace. As of Friday, the app sits at No. 7 on the U.S. chart, marking its highest ranking to date and suggesting its positioning is gaining traction.
According to data from market intelligence provider Appfigures, the mobile application experienced a significant increase in U.S. downloads immediately following the television commercials. A comparison of the download metrics highlights this growth:
- Sunday through Tuesday: U.S. downloads reached an estimated 148,000, averaging 49,200 daily downloads. This represents a 32% increase from the usual Sunday through Tuesday daily average of 37,400.
- Thursday through Saturday: U.S. downloads totaled approximately 112,000 in the three days preceding the campaign.
This surge represents a 32% increase in downloads between the two three-day periods. The recent performance marks a notable shift from the app’s initial mobile debut, with the app gaining more attention now than it did when it first arrived on mobile. When Claude first debuted on iOS in May 2024, it saw a relatively quiet reception. While competitor chatbot ChatGPT had beaten it to market on mobile devices and grew to nearly half a million installs in its first five days, Claude pulled in 157,000 total global downloads within its first week. During that initial launch period, Claude did not reach a rank higher than No. 55 on the U.S. App Store.
Globally, Claude also experienced growth, with worldwide downloads increasing 15% from Sunday through Tuesday compared to the Thursday through Saturday period. However, Appfigures noted that this global growth was less than half of the surge seen in the U.S. market.
The numbers suggest that the sudden rise in user acquisition is linked to the combination of the television commercials and the recent release of Anthropic’s Opus 4.6 model. This dual push has helped highlight Claude’s positioning against competitors like ChatGPT, especially as the app gains more traction than it did during its initial mobile launch.
Why it matters
Anthropic’s Super Bowl ads and the release of its new Opus 4.6 model have driven a significant increase in downloads for the Claude app, helping it reach a top 10 ranking on the U.S. App Store.
