Apple allows developers to bundle subscriptions on App Store
Apple is allowing developers to partner on App Store subscription bundles, a move that would let users access multiple apps at a lower price.
At WWDC 2026, Apple’s annual developer conference, the iPhone maker announced that it will allow developers to partner with one another to offer subscription bundles through the App Store. The update marks an expansion of the existing App Bundles feature, which had typically only allowed a single developer with multiple apps in their own catalog to sell them in bundles. Under the new capability, separate developers will be able to team up to offer users “more for less.” This represents the first time Apple is permitting cross-developer subscription partnerships on its platform.
The partnership model introduces a new structure called “Suites.” According to Apple, developers will be allowed to create these Suites as subscription packages that are not available as standalone purchases. The subscription bundles would give users access to multiple apps at a lower price than if they subscribed to each service separately.
This cross-developer bundling strategy mirrors established models in the streaming and media industries. Platforms such as HBO and Disney package together their subscriptions to boost their perceived value and retain customers.
The feature is designed to make sense for developers who share complementary user bases without being direct competitors. For example, a hypothetical creativity-focused bundle might combine a camera app, photo and video editing tools, and a social media publishing application. Similarly, productivity developers could partner to fill gaps in their respective product lines, allowing users to purchase a bundle that combines one developer’s to-do list with another’s calendar application.
Why it matters
This expansion of the App Bundles feature allows developers to increase perceived value and retain customers by packaging complementary apps, mirroring common practices in the streaming and media industries. By enabling cross-developer partnerships, Apple is providing a new mechanism for customer acquisition and retention on the App Store without requiring developers to merge their businesses.
