On Tuesday, Apple announced the launch of Creator Studio, a new subscription bundle that offers access to six creative applications alongside premium content in its iWork productivity suite. The bundle is scheduled to become available on January 28. Standard pricing for the subscription is set at $12.99 per month or $129 per year. For college students and educators, Apple is offering a discounted rate of $2.99 per month or $29.99 per year.

The subscription includes access to the following applications:

  • Final Cut Pro
  • Logic Pro
  • Pixelmator Pro
  • Motion
  • Compressor
  • MainStage

The bundle also includes premium content for Apple’s iWork applications, which consist of Keynote, Pages, and Numbers. Apple stated that the collaborative design application Freeform will be added to the bundle later for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. For users who prefer not to subscribe, Apple notes that Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, Pixelmator Pro, Motion, Compressor, and MainStage will continue to be available as standalone, one-time purchases on the Mac App Store. Free versions of Numbers, Pages, Keynote, and Freeform will also remain available.

“Apple Creator Studio is a great value that enables creators of all types to pursue their craft and grow their skills by providing easy access to the most powerful and intuitive tools for video editing, music making, creative imaging, and visual productivity — all leveled up with advanced intelligent tools to augment and accelerate workflows,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services.

Why it matters

Apple is consolidating its professional creative software suite into a single subscription service, lowering the barrier to entry for its most powerful tools. By bundling these applications, the company is shifting toward a recurring revenue model for its creative ecosystem while integrating new intelligent features.
