The nearly five-year-old company is expanding its platform to become an all-in-one hub for creators. By launching a suite of new tools, the company aims to reduce the need for creators to manage multiple disparate services to run their businesses. This positioning places the platform in competition with services spanning newsletters, webinars, and podcasting, including Patreon, Substack, Zoom, Kit, and Ghost.

The webinar launch is probably the most significant indicator of the company’s future direction. Creators can now host live events for up to 1,000 attendees directly on the platform, complete with video, screen sharing, and chat. They can charge for access in multiple currencies or offer the events for free to grow their audience, opening up use cases for educational content, product demonstrations, and community building.

To help creators monetize, the company is introducing metered paywalls and customizable paid trials. The metered paywalls allow creators to choose how many posts to offer for free—such as one or 10 posts—before prompting a subscription, with customizable reset periods ranging from daily to yearly. Meanwhile, the paid trials allow creators to set flexible options, such as charging $1 for 30 days or $5 for three months.

This expansion follows the addition of native podcast hosting last month, which allows creators to handle hosting, distribution, and monetization. The company reports that 50% of its existing users have migrated their existing podcasts to the platform, while 25% of existing users have launched entirely new podcasts. To support this growth, Beehiiv is developing video support for podcasts, which is planned to launch in Q2. Additionally, the company is expected to introduce ad features later this year. Creators can also opt in to connect artificial intelligence tools, including Claude and ChatGPT, to analyze audience metrics and ask questions about their data.

Alongside these product updates, which were announced on Thursday, the company reported its best quarterly results in company history. Key performance metrics include:

  • Reaching 400 million unique readers
  • Crossing 50,000 active users
  • Sending 10 billion emails
  • Surpassing $28 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) this month

Why it matters

Beehiiv is broadening its feature set to compete directly with established platforms like Substack and Patreon. By integrating newsletters, webinars, and podcast hosting, the company aims to consolidate the fragmented creator technology stack.
