ByteDance confirmed on Thursday that its new audio and video model, Dreamina Seedance 2.0, is rolling out within CapCut, its video editing application. The model allows creators to draft, edit, and sync video and audio content by using prompts, images, or reference videos. The integration brings the model to various areas of the CapCut platform, including editing features like AI Video and generation tools within Video Studio. ByteDance also plans to bring the model to its AI generation platform, Dreamina, and its marketing platform, Pippit. For users in China, the model is already available through ByteDance’s video editing app, Jianying.

At launch, the model supports the generation of clips up to 15 seconds long across six aspect ratios. Because the model can generate realistic content, ByteDance has implemented safety restrictions. Specifically, the model won’t have the ability to make videos from images or videos that contain real faces. CapCut will also block the unauthorized generation of intellectual property. To further manage tracking, content produced by Dreamina Seedance 2.0 will include an invisible watermark, which will help identify content made with the model when it is shared off-platform.

The phased rollout is currently limited to users in select markets, specifically Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. This restricted release follows a recent report that said the model’s global rollout would be paused while the company worked to address intellectual property issues. These issues drew criticism from Hollywood over alleged copyright infringement, which likely explains the limited number of markets where the model is currently available and its exclusion from the United States.

Why it matters

ByteDance is navigating a delicate balance between expanding its AI capabilities in CapCut and managing significant intellectual property pushback from Hollywood, resulting in a phased, market-specific rollout strategy.
