City Detect raises $13M to automate urban blight detection
City Detect, which uses computer vision to monitor urban infrastructure, raised a $13 million Series A round to expand its AI-powered blight detection services across the U.S.
On Friday, City Detect announced a $13 million Series A funding round to scale its AI-driven urban monitoring platform. The investment round was led by Prudence Venture Capital, with participation from several other investors. The complete list of participating investors includes:

The startup, founded in 2021, uses computer vision and AI to help cities track and fix urban blight and decay. The company mounts cameras on public vehicles to capture photos of surrounding buildings as they pass, then uses computer vision to analyze the images to ensure they are up to code. This process helps local governments identify issues such as graffiti, illegal dumping, litter, and vandalism. While humans tasked with tracking decaying buildings are typically able to process 50 buildings per week, City Detect can analyze thousands per week.
Operating in at least 17 cities, including Dallas and Miami, the startup emphasizes its SOC 2 Type II compliance—an independent security and privacy certification—and its membership in the GovAI Coalition, an AI governance collective. To address municipal concerns regarding data privacy and responsible AI usage, the company also follows its own responsible AI policy. CEO and co-founder Gavin Baum-Blake explained that the company published this policy in response to a consortium of local governments seeking clarity on vendor commitments, ensuring partners know what to expect.
With $15 million raised to date, the company plans to use the new capital to hire engineers and expand throughout the U.S. It also intends to advance its capabilities in detecting structural roof issues and storm damage. Baum-Blake noted that departments using the platform are seeing efficiency gains, quicker detection of tires, litter, and illegal dumping, and more instances of blight being resolved without citations. According to Baum-Blake, “It’s exciting to see technology-forward municipalities lean into predictive AI like City Detect’s models.”
