Startup Battlefield Australia extends application deadline to July 20
Startup Battlefield Australia has extended its application deadline to July 20, offering startups a final chance to pitch at Stripe Tour Sydney and win a spot at Disrupt.
Startup Battlefield Australia, the regional startup competition organized by TechCrunch, has extended its application deadline to July 20. Organizers have asserted that there will not be another extension, making this the final opportunity for early-stage companies in the region to submit their applications. The extension provides founders with additional time to prepare their submissions, though organizers emphasize that the new July 20 cutoff is strict. The competition is free to apply to, and the organizers do not take any equity from participating startups.
The competition has established a track record for launching regional startups into the global tech ecosystem. Since the first Startup Battlefield Australia was held in 2017, 26 alumni companies have collectively raised over $147 million, resulting in three successful acquisitions. These alumni have secured backing from investors including Y Combinator, Blackbird Ventures, Square Peg Capital, Khosla Ventures, Microsoft, AirTree Ventures, Startmate, Techstars, and SOSV.
The competition is open to early-stage startups across Australia and New Zealand. To qualify, companies must be between the Pre-seed and Series B stages, actively building a real product or demonstrating strong traction, and preparing to scale their operations. The organizers are looking for companies that are ready to scale and prepared to tell their story to a global audience.
The live pitch event on August 19, 2026, will bring eight selected startups to Stripe Tour Sydney, a regional event hosted by the financial technology company Stripe. Founders will present their businesses live to an audience of investors, global media, regional founders, operators, potential partners, customers, and hires. The event serves as a fast track for founders to build visibility and credibility within the regional and global tech ecosystems.
The competition offers several key incentives for the participating founders:
- Stripe fee credits: The top three startups will receive up to $15,000 in Stripe fee credits, which are financial incentives provided by Stripe.
- Flagship conference access: The grand prize winner receives automatic entry into the Startup Battlefield 200 at TechCrunch Disrupt, the flagship startup conference held in San Francisco this October. This path requires no second application or extra round, offering direct access to the global startup stage.
Why it matters
This extension provides a final, time-sensitive opportunity for early-stage startups in Australia and New Zealand to gain visibility and access to global investors. By securing a spot in the pipeline to TechCrunch Disrupt, regional founders can bypass traditional local constraints and pitch directly on a global stage.
