Google adds stock-checking and hotel tracking to AI Mode
Google is rolling out new AI-powered travel features in the United States in the coming weeks, including local stock-checking and hotel price tracking.
Google announced on Friday that it is rolling out new features designed to help users with planning summer travel. The updates, which are scheduled to roll out on the company’s AI Mode in the United States in the coming weeks, will bring new capabilities to both AI Mode and Search. The rollout focuses on assisting users with summer travel logistics by integrating task-oriented artificial intelligence and specific tracking tools directly into Google’s consumer platforms.
Under the update, Google is integrating agentic AI—defined as AI systems capable of performing tasks or taking actions on behalf of a user—into AI Mode. This feature allows the system to help check whether items are in stock at a nearby store. Users can describe a specific item they need, and Google will contact local stores on their behalf to find which shop carries it, sending the details afterward. This stock-checking capability originally launched directly on Search last November, and its integration into AI Mode represents an expansion of the tool. Additionally, Google is updating Search to allow users to track prices for individual hotels. While users could previously track hotel prices at a city level, they can now track prices for specific hotels directly in Search. On desktop, users can look up a hotel by name and select a price-tracking toggle, while mobile users can find the option under the “Prices” tab to receive email alerts if the price changes during their chosen dates.
Alongside these updates, Google shared travel trend data from Google Flights. The platform identified the top trending international and domestic destinations for summer 2026, which include St. Maarten, Stockholm, Kansas City, Missouri, and Sarasota, Florida.
These product updates arrive amid a significant increase in consumer search interest for AI-enabled planning tools. According to Google, search interest for “AI travel assistant” and “AI concierge” has surged by 350% over the past year. Similarly, search interest in “AI flight booking” has jumped by 315% over the same period.
Why it matters
Google is deepening its integration of agentic AI into consumer search, moving beyond simple information retrieval to active task completion for travel and retail logistics.
