Europe’s Lovable scales as vibe-coding challenges legacy SaaS

Europe’s Lovable has reached $500 million in annualized revenue run rate, though the company may not be on track to double that figure by this summer.

Europe’s Lovable, a startup founded in late 2023, has surpassed $500 million in annualized revenue run rate—a financial metric projecting annual revenue based on current performance. The company, which focuses on “vibe-coding” (a term for AI-assisted software development platforms), also claims that its platform has been used to build over 50 million projects. According to Lovable, usage has accelerated to one million new projects a week.

The company’s financial trajectory highlights its growth, though it faces steep targets set in its earlier stages:

  • Current Run Rate: Lovable has reached $500 million in annualized revenue run rate.
  • Previous Milestone: In February, the company discussed its revenue when it crossed $400 million.
  • Long-term Goal: In August, 2024, Lovable stated it could hit $1 billion in annualized revenue within 12 months.

Based on these figures, Lovable may not be on track to double its revenue figure by summer, yet the growth is notable for a company that has not yet reached its three-year anniversary.

According to Lovable, its user base is primarily non-technical. Despite lacking traditional software development backgrounds, these users are increasingly building software they intend to monetize or use directly in their business operations. The company reports that users—including founders, designers, and salespeople—are building websites, e-commerce storefronts, and internal tools such as customer relationship management (CRM) systems, inventory systems, and human resources platforms.

This shift in software creation provides a data point for the industry. AI vibe-coding platforms are increasingly viewed as a direct challenge to legacy software-as-a-service (SaaS) providers, a trend sometimes referred to as the “SaaSpocalypse,” where businesses choose to build custom tools rather than purchase expensive software contracts. However, because Lovable and the projects built on it are relatively new, the long-term viability of vibe-coded software remains an open question. While initial construction is simplified by AI, the ongoing maintenance of software—which must constantly adapt to shifting dependencies, third-party updates, and infrastructure changes—presents a significant hurdle that may determine whether these projects are sustained or eventually abandoned.

Why it matters

Lovable’s rapid growth and usage metrics provide a critical test case for whether AI ‘vibe-coding’ platforms can genuinely disrupt legacy SaaS software or if they face long-term maintenance hurdles.
