HEN Technologies raises $20 million to scale fire safety hardware

HEN Technologies raised a $20 million Series A to scale its high-efficiency fire nozzles and predictive analytics platform, projecting $20 million in revenue this year.

Last month, Hayward-based HEN Technologies closed a $20 million Series A round—the company’s first significant institutional venture capital round. The financing was led by O’Neil Strategic Capital, with participation from NSFO, Tanas Capital, and z21 Ventures. Additionally, Silicon Valley Bank provided $2 million in venture debt, a specialized loan structure for startups, bringing the company’s total funding to more than $30 million. Founded in June 2020 by Sunny Sethi, who moved from Ohio to the East Bay outside San Francisco, the company plans to use the capital to scale its hardware manufacturing and expand its software capabilities.

HEN Technologies builds fire nozzles that it says put out fires up to three times faster than earlier products while conserving two-thirds of the water. The company is now expanding its hardware line into a predictive analytics platform—which uses data analysis to forecast future events—for emergency response. The hardware, which includes 23 different circuit board designs and 20 patent applications with half a dozen granted, acts as the data-collection foundation. As founder Sunny Sethi explained: “But you can’t have [predictive analytics] unless you have good-quality data. You can’t have good-quality data unless you have the right hardware.”

The company’s financial trajectory has grown since its first product launches in the second quarter of 2023:

HEN currently serves 1,500 fire department customers, including Abu Dhabi Civil Defense and US Army bases, and ships through 120 distributors. However, navigating the market is difficult. Sethi noted that the procurement cycle is B2B, requiring the 50-person team to navigate government purchasing cycles. HEN competes against firefighting equipment companies like IDEX Corp and software players like First Due, a Miami company that announced a $355 million funding round last August. The market opportunity is defined by a US national fleet of 200,000 engines, with 20,000 new engines purchased annually.

Beyond immediate emergency operations, HEN is amassing real-world data on fire suppression and physics. This data could be used for training AI world models—systems that construct simulated representations of physical environments to predict future states. By capturing how water behaves under extreme conditions, HEN is positioning itself as a data provider for companies training robotics and predictive physics engines.

Fire departments often lack communication between water suppliers and firefighters, leading to water shortages during emergencies. HEN’s platform integrates data to optimize resource allocation and provides predictive analytics for emergency operations, addressing “logistical nightmares” like water tenders in rural America and “megafire” events.
